Sister Shirley Lucas was born and raised in Wake Forest, North Carolina. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of the Rolesville New Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.W. Morgan
She is a graduate of St. Augustine's College, Raleigh, North Carolina, with a B.S. Degree in Health and Physical Education. She also matriculated at Montclair State University for additional studies in Administration/Supervision.
In 1991 Sister Lucas joined the Humanity Baptist Church, Newark, N.J. under the leadership of the late J.W. Brown. She was a member of the adult choir.
In 1996, upon the naming of her then, assistant pastor Rev. Wilton Gyant, Sr. to the position of Pastor at Zion Baptist Church, Sis. Lucas became a member of The Zion Baptist Church, Newark, N J.. During her tenure at Zion, she served as Sunday School Teacher, Vice-president of Women's Ministry, President of the Executive Board, Teacher of The New Membership Class, and Christian Education Director for eleven years.
During her stay at Zion, she was elected as the youth director for the New Hope Association of New Jersey for four years.
Due to a move, Sister. Lucas joined The Tabernacle Baptist Church in 2010, under the leadership of Rev. Leo H. Graham. Since becoming a member of Tabernacle, she has served in the following ministries: President of Women's Ministry, President of Health Ministry, Sunday School Teacher. She is currently President of the Missionary Ministry and The Christian Education Director.
There shall be a Christian Education Program under the administration of a general director to accomplish the goals of the Baptist Training Union or its equivalent. A regular schedule of appropriate classed shall be developed.
